Final

For your final project, you will choose ONE of the following options. The tentative deadline is July 16th at 11:59 p.m.

Topic 1: Create a Facebook profile or other social networking site for Gregor Samsa. The site must be well-developed with images, one week's worth of status updates, a completed profile (books, music, links, relationship, etc.). In addition to sending the link for this site, you will also generate an essay of approximately 300 words, in which you explain the rationale behind choices and preferences on the site. Make sure to quote statements and descriptions from Kafka's story to justify your choices.

Topic 2: We discussed three primary types of time: chronological, stellar and chaotic (dream states, dissociation due to trauma or drug use). In this 750-word response, you will act as an anthropologist to research the Twitter archives created by you and your peers (and those you have followed). First, discuss how these three types of time appear in Borges's story, citing the text to support your claims. Then, gather at least 20 samples from the Twitter feeds and discuss what types of time appear to drive most people's lives based on their Twitter updates. You should use quotes from at least 7 different students in your analysis. Finally, review some of the evaluations posted by my former students from 2009-10. Compare their findings to your own: does it appear that our culture's awareness of time has changed in the past two years? Are people relating to time or using Twitter differently?
